EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
“Building Peace Through Service” (BPTS) Program is a two-year Peace Vocational Training Team Program, which features Youth Service-Learning Initiatives & Community Engagement Special Events. BPTS Program is a collaborative Peace initiative in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and Tortola, British Virgin Islands ( Rotary District 7020). Columbus Rotary, (Rotary District 6690), is the BPTS Program -International Rotary Club partner.
- The BPTS program aligns with the RI focus area of Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
- BPTS program is endorsed by Rotarian ActionGroup for Peace (RAGFP).
- BPTS Program also aligns Nonviolent Communication (NVC) process with the Rotary 4-Way Test.
- BPTS Program is responsive to local community needs – as demonstrated in the local Community Assessment Survey, conducted by the Rotary Club of St. Thomas, the Grant Host Rotary Club Partner.
The Vocational Training Team
- Trains local educators, youth facilitators, Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors, to implement Peace-themed Service-Learning programs in classrooms and community-based after school sites.
- Youth and Young adults demonstrate Service engagement through various Peace projects and special events.
- They also utilize the Rotary 4-Way Test in their project planning, implementation, and through Personal Reflection Journals.
- The BPTS Program also trains how local Rotary clubs can convene the community to discuss important Peace issues, including Positive Peace, through periodic Special Events.
BPTS Program – Anticipated Outcomes
- Train 40 Teachers, Youth Facilitators, Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors in Peace skills
- Engage 400+ youth in classrooms and after-school sites in Peace initiatives on St. Thomas, USVI and Tortola, BVI
- Convene Community of 100+ Peace advocates from St. Thomas, USVI and Tortola, BVI in Peace Special Events (2 per year)
- Increase Peace initiative awareness to 1,000+ residents through various Outreach & Engagement media outlets
